Tree felling is the part of the job where the tree comes down. How we do it depends on the size of the tree, how much room there is around it and what’s underneath. On an open section, lifestyle block or land clearing job, a tree can often be felled in one piece. In a tight backyard, or next to a house, fence or driveway, we take it down in sections so nothing gets damaged.
For trees with clear space to fall. We plan the drop zone, make controlled cuts and bring the tree down in one piece. It’s usually the quickest and most cost-effective option, and it keeps the trunk whole if you want to use it for timber or firewood.
For trees close to buildings, fences, driveways or neighbours. Our arborists climb the tree and take it down piece by piece, lowering larger sections on ropes so they land exactly where we want them.
For large or hazardous trees with no safe way to lower sections by hand, such as a tree leaning over a roof. Sections are lifted out by crane and set down in a clear area.

Felling is cutting the tree down. Removal is the whole job: felling or dismantling the tree, clearing the wood and branches, and grinding the stump if you want it gone completely. When you ask us for a tree removal quote, felling is included.
Small trees with plenty of clear space around them can sometimes be cut down safely by a confident homeowner. Most trees can’t. A tree that falls the wrong way can damage your house, fences or a neighbour’s property, and chainsaw work at height is one of the most dangerous jobs there is. Some Auckland trees are also protected and need council approval before they’re removed. If in doubt, get a free assessment first.
