Both get the stump out of your way. Which one suits you depends on what you want to do with the ground afterwards – we’ll tell you which we’d recommend at the free inspection.
It depends on the diameter of the stump, how deep the roots run and how easily we can get a machine to it. We quote on site for free, so you know the price before we start. Grinding is usually the cheaper of the two options.
Grinding chips the stump down below ground level and leaves the root system in place. Removal takes out the stump and the main roots, which leaves a larger hole but a completely clear site. Grinding suits most gardens; removal suits building and landscaping work.
Usually 150-300mm below ground level, which is enough to re-turf or replant over the top. If you are laying a driveway or building over it, tell us at the inspection and we will go deeper.
You are welcome to keep it - a ground stump makes good mulch for garden beds. If you would rather not, we take it away as part of the clean-up and leave the site tidy.
